Are You Game For Cloth Diapering? Make It Easy with Rumparooz One Size Cloth Diaper
Having a baby holds the steepest learning curve ever! Not only are you trying to: tune into motherly intuition, learn to breastfeed, figure out self-care, understand feeding schedules, learn how to diaper/care for/ bathe/ etc a new baby…, but you’re also trying to understand and sift through baby products that all claim to be essential to your little one. Often when new moms are approached with the idea of cloth diapering on top of everything else they are trying to do, it is just the straw the breaks the camel’s back. There is no more room for input.
I truly feel that once you try cloth diapering, you’ll see how really easy it is and that everyone can do it. It’s not just for the uber earth-conscientious folks; it is for everyone.
So, let’s break it down as to what you need to get started on your cloth diapering journey.
1. Cloth Diapers and Inserts
Duh. Of course there are countless types and prints on the market today, but the two main differences are:
–All-in-Ones– This is where the cloth/prefold fits inside a pocket in the diaper, and once baby wets/soils the diaper, the whole thing will get washed. Today we are reviewing an awesome All-in-one diaper… RUMPAROOZ, so make sure to check them out.
–Prefolds– This is where you can put the prefold (aka a cloth diaper) into a waterproof or quick dry diaper shell. This means you only need to change the cloth when the baby…ehem…does his business.
2. A Diaper Pail
-Find a pail with a lid, and insert a waterproof dry storage bag which you can then just launder with the diapers. No need to add water or anything else to the bag…just the cloth diapers.
This is essentially a high pressure hose that attaches to the toilet, so you can hose down those poopy diapers before throwing them in the dry pail. This is a “make it or break it” deal for me when it comes to cloth diapering. I said “optional” above, but it is mandatory in my household.
4. Laundry Detergent: Hypo-Allergenic and Free From Dyes and Perfume
Do a 20 minute cold soak. Then Set your washing machine to hot , choose the highest water setting, add your detergent and away we go. Only wash 12-14 diapers at a time. Don’t use bleach or fabric softeners. You can use 1/2 cup of lemon juice to whiten them, or even line dry them in the sun to naturally brighten them.
So, which cloth diapers are best??? Cloth diapering is like choosing your favorite sports team: everyone has a favorite. I’m going to tell you about one of my personal favorites: Rumparooz.
I have cloth diapered both of my daughters and have tried out a lot of cloth diapers, and am now onto baby #3. This means I need durability and convenience! Some brands have just not lasted, but Rumparooz has surpassed the others.
GOOD FOR BABY ★★★★★
Cloth diapers are a great alternative to disposable diapers for babies. There are lots and lots of chemicals in disposable diapers. After all, how can that magic gel absorb 100x the baby’s weight in urine and still be natural? So let’s get those nasty chemicals away from our sensitive baby’s skin. I’ve read that the cost of diapers for one baby from birth to potty trained is around $2,000, and they contribute 600,000 diapers per year to landfills! You can buy a whole lot of cloth diapers for well under $500. Now, you tell me which is better for baby (and for your pocketbook)! These cloth diapers are also soft against baby’s delicate skin, with no toxic chemicals added.
GOOD FOR EARTH ★★★★
Rumparooz are made with Water Resistant Polyester TPU. Most cloth diapers are made waterproof either by: PUL or TPU. Here are the main differences:
PUL: Polyurethane Laminate is most widely used in cloth diapers. PUL is laminating any polyester or cotton fabric with a polyurethane lining by chemically bonding to one side to make it waterproof. It is not breathable.
TPU:Thermoplastic Polyurethane is now being used by a few brands of cloth diapers. The main difference is that TPU is heat bonded instead of chemical bonded. TPU is also more like fabric and softer than PUL. Also is not breathable. It is a healthier choice over PUL since TPU is heat bonded.
Rumparooz produces their diapers in China, so unfortunately they have a long way to travel to get over to the US. Aside from the distance, the product ranks high in this category. The factory is European owned and operates the factory under EU labor standards.
The earth certainly approves of cloth diapers over disposable, and Rumparooz is an excellent choice.
USER-FRIENDLINESS ★★★★★
The Rumparooz One Size Diaper has 4 adjustable rise settings that are designed to fit your baby from birth to potty training with just 1 cover. Having to purchase only one size makes it easier on the checkbook and more convenient for families. It also has a double gusset on the diaper, which helps to prevent blow-outs…and believe me, this is important!
The diaper shells as well as the insert really does a great job at resisting stains, and is oh-so-soft against baby’s bum.
The other great benefit from using an All-in-One cloth diaper is that they can act similar to disposables; when changing the baby, you take off the whole diaper, get your next one ready and fasten it on the baby. No laying of the insert, trying to line squirming baby up with the diaper and wondering if the insert is moving around. The only downside of all-in-ones is more laundry for you, since you’re not re-using the diaper shell for multiple diaper changes.
USEFULNESS ★★★★★
Do Rumparooz make life more convenient? Well, honestly, at first…no. Cloth diapering (like everything related to baby) is a learning curve and it takes a little time to find your rhythm. One great thing, is that there are no midnight diaper runs to the supermarket. Once you got it down, cloth diapers are awesome and you’ll find yourself promoting them to other mamas.
